Course aims

To provide an overview of the concepts as well as the development and importance of meteorology and climatology. To develop the skill to relate climatic conditions to geographical systems, geographical zones and landscapes.

Brief description of the course

Terminology of climatology and meteorology, relationships between these and other disciplines. The effect of climate forming factors on the creation of weather and climate. The formation of climatic elements and their distribution on Earth. The hierarchy of climatic systems and their relationship to the landscape. Most commonly used systems of climatic regionalisation. Methods of climatic monitoring and research.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledges about meterological and climatelogical concepts, progress and importance nowadays;
- has overwiev of climate observance systems and general idea of the future climate.
