Course aims

The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the analysis of musical form.

Brief description of the course

The concept of musical form. Formal functions. (Main) Theme. Simple ternary and binary (three-part and two-part forms). Compound ternary. Theme and variations. Rondo. Sonata form. Form in vocal compositions. Forms in baroque music

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Student who passes the course:is familiar with the main types of form in classical instrumental music, can recognize the form of different baroque, classical and 19th century compositions, can perform the formal analysis of different tonal compositions.
