Course aims
Providing an overview of and support the students obtaining knowledge and skills in classical harmony and classical polyphony.
Brief description of the course
During harmony class the students will listen, analyse and notate simple tonal 4-part chord progressions beginning with the bass line, proceeding with chord name and soprano voice notation filling later the middle voices (alto, tenor) according to classical harmony rules. Also the students will be introduced with II, II6 and II7 chords (in different constallations) and play chord progressions incorporation those chords. In counterpoint the students will be introduced with basic principles of classical vocal polyphony and counterpoint. Based on those rules the students will analyse and create 1st-5th species (strict) counterpoint voice leading textures. The course requires practical work and homework.
