Brief description of the course
The course consists of practical training sessions and analytical discussions aimed at further developing technical precision, coordination and phrasing within the classical ballet training system. Students use ballet terminology when describing and analysing exercises and explore the biomechanical principles underlying ballet movement.
The course includes:
barre exercises at an intermediate level;
centre work developing coordination, balance and phrasing;
allegro combinations including small, medium and large jumps (grand allegro).
The learning process is practice-based and requires participation in at least 85% of contact sessions.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- performs the fundamental elements of classical ballet with technical control and expressiveness;
- uses professional ballet terminology when demonstrating exercises and analysing movement;
- applies principles of musicality, coordination and phrasing within the ballet training system;
- analyses biomechanical principles of ballet movement and their effect on body use;
- relates technical principles of ballet to their own dance and choreographic practice.
