Course aims

To provide an introduction to real art life and create the habit of relating to contemporary art. To develop writing, oral presentation and discussion skills.

Brief description of the course

Visits to exhibitions of contemporary art, reading relevant texts and analysis of them. Both Estonian and international art exhibitions in Tallinn are viewed. How to adequately “read” an exhibition. The importance of theory and background knowledge. An issue of evaluation. Media reception. The course will depend on exhibitions which are available during the course, there is an element of creativity and rapid reaction.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
To learn about real art life; to be able to relate to problems of contemporary art; to be able to write, present orally and discuss; to learn about the most important Estonian art events.
