Course aims
The aim of the course is to introduce role and position of journalism in the nowadays society, journalism development through history and also media systems and its connections with culture, politics and economics.
Brief description of the course
Development of technological and social practices in history of journalism.
Communication, communication models and processes. Journalism and its relations with politics, economics, culture and society. Semiotic approach to journalism and its content. Functions and disfunctions of journalism for person, organization and society. Journalism and PR. Media systems in Estonia and other parts of the world. Media. Different kinds on journalism.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows journalism general development of journalism in Estonia;
- understands the position and role of journalism in the society;
- knows different media systems and is able to describe specifics of different media channels.
