Course aims
The aim is to introduce main classical and modern communication and media theories, to explain the role of media and communication in nowadays society and its part in development of culture. Also, to create prerequisites to understand the correlation with other social sciences and to help develop interdisciplinary thinking.
Brief description of the course
Based on the compulsory literature course gives an overview of theoretical bases of communication and media, different schools and trends. Throughout the course students will use theories while solving practical tasks.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows main communication and media theories, their concepts and problems;
- is able to distinguish different communication process positions in media communication and different types of messages;
- understands the impact of the public, public opinion and media, and the process of media influence;
- is able to use gained knowledge in practical activities: advertising, public relations, integrated marketing communication, journalism, political communication, etc;
- has acquired skills to conduct research projects in bachelor's level.
