Course aims
Through introducing theoretical bases of didactics of mathematics to create possibilities for the acquisition of the knowledge and skills needed for teaching mathematics at the first stage of basic school
Brief description of the course
The structure of didactics of mathematics, concept of teaching mathematics.
Main concepts and activities in mathematics. Content of mathematics, teaching methods and means. Structure of a lesson of mathematics, the role of games in teaching mathematics. Mathematics in the national curriculum of basic school.. General competences, integration and main themes. Methods activating teaching mathematics. Teaching numbers. Adding and subtracting. Text problems with one operation. Natural numbers 0-10 000. Instructions for calculating in the head and in writing..Multiplying and dividing. Multiplication table. Fractions. Geometry. Measuring. Problem tasks. Different ways of working.
Students have to draw up two individual lesson conspectuses and two written short tasks based on the compulsory literature. Students have also to prepare a teaching aid and to present all the missed group work papers.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can associate the theotetical knowledge of the subject with practical teaching of mathematical knowledge and skills at the first stage of school and supervise studying according to age;
- uses correct terminology;
- takes into consideration individual peculiarities and include the children actively into the study process using playing and prctical activities;
- can associate, analyse and asess different didactical solutions and their purposefulness;
- is able to plan a lesson of mathematics and to carry the planned lesson out.
