Course aims

Creating theotetical and practical basis for teaching mathematics at the second stage of school, getting acquainted with the content of the subject; setting objectives to teaching mathematics , linking them with everyday life, getting acquainted with different methods.

Brief description of the course

Development of thinking in lessons of mathematics. Forming the concept of size: measuration and units of measure, various geometrical configurations. Composing text problems, analysing and solving them. Diagram problems, compilation of them. Natural numbers over million: comparison, rounding. Various types of problems. Number expression, letter expression. Decimal fractions: reading, writing, calculating, comparing, rounding them. Ordinary fractions: simple and compound fractions, cancelling out, varying, comparing. Problems with ordinary fractions. Practical work.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with the themes of mathematics of the second stage of school;
- has knowledge of didactics for teaching the subject;
- has skills of teaching mathematics using methods of seach and discovery;
- can use different kinds of methods.
