Course aims

To provide the basis for further analysis of French culture and history (until the The Great French Revolution; 5th century till 1789).

Brief description of the course

Main events in French history (5th century B.C. - 1789); the development of French society, state and culture.
History through literature.
The final mark consists of a presentation, two intermediate tests and a written exam.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has gained cultural and historical knowledge about France;
- is able to associate different fields of French culture;
- is able to recognise historic changes as well as traditions etc which are permanent.
