Course aims
Core subject: historical survey of the development of the English language.
Brief description of the course
An overview of the history of English, examining the phonetic, morphological, and lexicological development of the language against the background of historical events. The course starts with the pre-history of the English language and concentrates on the basic structural changes in the language in every period of development
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The students get an overview of the history of English; are able to comment on the phonological, grammatical and lexical peculiarities taken place during the historical development of the language.
