Course aims

To learn to analyse poems, prose and drama. An analysis of verse, prose and drama text structures. Becoming acquainted with some methodologies of text analysis: text-based, context-based, variations.

Brief description of the course

The concepts of text, analysis and interpretation. Different methods of literary research. The analysis of poetry, prose and drama. The analysis of poetics and versification – language, metre, stanzas, tropes, characters etc. The possibilities to analyze a poem, novel, play etc. The practical analyses of poetry, prose and drama texts in seminars.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- has obtained the skill to analyze and interpret different literary works in different genres and is able to write an independent analytical review of a literary text
