Course aims
Second part of the basic course of Camerawork and Lighting for
Films and TV
Brief description of the course
Exposure - the key to the quality of Images.
Splitting the scene into shots. Continuity of the movement.
Continuity of Lighting in the Scene.
Visual language. Design: unity, balance, visual tension, rhythm, proportion, contrast, texture, directionality.
Forces of visual organization: horizon, vertical, diagonal, triangle,
S-line, vanishing point. Open & closed frame.
Lens language. Wide l._expansion of Space, deep focus, Enhancing of Linear perspective and Movments.
Long lens. Compression of space, selective focus. Zoom lens.
Mise-en-scene and Blocking. Complex movments of tehe camera.
Motivation & invisible tehnique. Dolly+pan+zoom. Crane.
Steadycam, Gyro-systems, Dynalens, Snorkel.
Color theory & use of color in film. Warm & cold colors effect on emotions. Hue, brightness, saturation. Color circle. Complementary colors. Color contrast. Hue+black or white. Analogous colors.Color schemes: One hue, Complementary hue, Split complementary, 3-way Split, 4-way split. Color palette.
Control of color: camera filters, lighting filters. Time & location.
Film stock. Lab services: flashing, pushing, chemical development, color timing. Digital.
Writing, planning, lighting, shooting, editing a short film in color.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the lighting & exposure for good color images;
- can execute of the practical exercises and semester film in color.
