Course aims
The aim of the programme is to provide students with professional knowledge and skills which can be applied to the variety of career opportunities within the range of roles as professional guide. On completion of the programme, students will be able to demonstrate a professional approach to guiding visitors around attractions, local environments and activities. Students will also be able to understand and demonstrate effective customer care and communication skills.
Brief description of the course
Guiding and industry knowledge. Legislation. National Tour Guide organisations. Professional orientation. Guiding and group dynamics. Coach tour routes and main visitor attractions in Tallinn. Information, presentation and rhetoric. Communication and interpretation techniques. Didactic methodology of guiding. Core guiding skills. Outdoor guiding skills. Reclamation and complaints management. First aid, health and safety.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows occupational descriptions of guides, tour guides, guide-translators and certification principles;
- knows reguirements on knowledge, social behavior and personal traits of guides;
- knows guide ethics and responsibilities during delivery of the services;
- can prepare guided trips and lead the groups of different age cultural back-round;
- uses voice and body language;
- can react adequately in case of emergency;
- can organize guide trips in specific places and given subjects.
