Course aims
To create conditions for acquiring fundamental knowledge and skills in cross-country skiing and ice skating, both theoretically and practically. To establish the foundation for methodological knowledge and didactic skills for conducting beginner-level instruction.
Brief description of the course
The development of cross-country skiing, organization, and management of the sport. Conditions suitable for recreational activities, overview of cross-country skiing techniques, selection and maintenance of equipment. Suitable learning environments, trails and conditions for practice, and safety considerations. Methodology and didactics for beginner instruction, exercises to develop skiing techniques, their practical execution on various terrains, and activity analysis. Providing fundamental knowledge and skills for teaching basic skills for skiing.
The organization of ice skating as a sport and the management of related activities (types of skating — speed skating, figure skating, recreational skating, and competition management). Suitable conditions for skating, the selection and maintenance of skating equipment. Methodology and didactics for beginner instruction. Practical execution of fundamental exercises to acquire skating techniques.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- explains the characteristics of different skiing and skating techniques;
- identifies suitable equipment for various techniques, its maintenance principles, and suitable environments for movement;
- differentiates between various techniques and analyzes their application;
- demonstrates methodological approaches and didactic techniques for beginner instruction in skiing and skating;
- applies different types of movement and techniques according to conditions;
- utilizes appropriate fundamental exercises in beginner instruction didactics;
- can take weather conditions into account when moving outdoors and dress in a way that protects health;
- performs professional tasks according to the possibilities of the environment and takes into account safety requirements.
