Course aims

Developing the knowledge needed to understand the organizational structure of sports, the management of sports organizations internationally and in Estonia.

Brief description of the course

The course covers the following topics. The organizational structure of sports. Laws and conventions governing sports. Ethical guidelines in sports activities. Ethics of coaching. Guidelines for organizing children's and youth sports. Values and ethics in a sports organization. Creating a sports club, planning and evaluating activities. Sports club management and work organization. Human resources in a sports club. Sports financing. Basics of sports marketing and sponsorship in sports. Communication with the public and the media.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- knowledge of regulative mechanism in sport and of how sport activities are organised;
- ability to understand the challenges associated with administration and leadership in sport;
- ability to understand value structures and ethics in sport.
