Course aims

The objective of the course is to become familiar with the regularities of a child’s development as well as development evaluation scales, questionnaires, and tests.

Brief description of the course

The essence and trends of learning to know the child.Perinatal development and possibilities of observing development. Development of a toddler and its evaluation. Wechsler’s test, WPPSI and its use in evaluating the development of a pre-school age child. Evaluation of social competence. Social behaviour tests. School maturity and its determination. School maturity tests. Observing children in kindergarten. Observation report. Video observation. Interviewing children. Literation and analysis of interviews. Interviewing kindergarten educators. Literation and analysis of interviews. Child intelligence tests. Results analysis. Preparing description of an interviewee based on the results. Portfolio.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Has knowledge of different ways of evaluating child development;
Can prepare a questionnaire for an interview and an observation table to study child development;
Can evaluate school readiness;
Can prepare description of a child’s developme
