Course aims
The aim of the subject is to mediate knowledge about the traditions and pedagogical basis of outdoor learning in Estonia and in other countries, to create possibilities for the development of environmental awareness, to create preconditions for the development of readiness to implement different outdoor learning didactical means depending on the age and knowledge of participants in the activity, to support the readiness to use nature as a learning environment
Brief description of the course
About the traditions of outdoor learning in Estonia and in other countries. Nature and artificial environment around us. Social aspects of sustainable development. An overview of pedagogical origin of outdoor learning. Learning facilities in different meanings. Outdoor as a learning environment, principles of developing a learning-yard. Learning to know the environment surrounding home from the point of view of outdoor learning. Outdoor learning and mobile technologies. Didactics of outdoor learning – observation and discovery, inquiry and collection, play, different biocoenosis, nature protection. Practical activities in nature
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
The student has knowledge of the traditions and pedagogical basis of outdoor learning; knows how to carry out activities using didacical knowledge of outdoor learning, the possibilities of outdors as a learning environment and modern mobile solutions; is able to analyse the surrounding environment from the persepctive of outdoor learning and develop ecological attitude among pupils.
