Course aims
Provides an insight into the main problems connected with the developing of speech and speech development of children with special needs, to learn about the issues and methods related to the development of speech.
Brief description of the course
Speech, language, speech problems, speaking. Articulation instrument. Data about a child and its speech development. Child’s willingness to speak at the moment and before, general activity and activity to speak. The need for speech therapy (how long,where,results). Parent counseling. Preschooler’s speech and its characterisation. Development of creating and understanding sentences, development of grammar structures, vocabulary and pronounciation. Development of potential qualities of reading and writing skills.

Upon completing the course the student:

• Knows the principles of developing infants’ and preschoolers’ speech
• Uses different methods to assess the current status of a child’s speaking skills and sets goals according to the child’s speech development needs.
• Analyses critically the development of speaking skills of a child with special needs and advises the parent according to the results of the child’s speech evaluation.
• Can clearly express herself as adult and competent specialist.
