Course aims
To create opportunities to implement theoretical knowledge in practical work with 6-7-year-old children (for preliminary teaching) supporting the skills of combining practical experience with theoretical knowledge
To support forming the student’s skills for a child analysis and organising learning- educational process.
To support student’s progress to be a self-reflecting teacher and the visions of his/her professional roles.
Brief description of the course
Their work must be based on the national curriculum, the year plan and curriculum of the kindergarten, group’s activity plan, week plan, making the week plan independently. A lot of attention is paid to purposeful action and integration of different areas. Students plan and carry out learning activities for 6-7-year-old children (theme activities and/or different projects are carried out using game, playful methods and children’s literature). Based on the group’s daily routine everyday activities are carried out and 6-7-year-old children’s games are observed/supervised.
Familiarisation with the evaluation methods of school readiness and cooperation between the kindergarten and school. Observation and analysis of social environment (relations between children, relations between children and adults; adult relations, teamwork).
Consistent analysis of learning-educational process and his/her own activity, copying with the work of a group teacher, supervising the group.

Upon completing the course the student:

• Can plan his/her activity based on the documents regulating the activities of a kindergarten and a teacher (the national curriculum, development plan of the kindergarten, curriculum, rules of the house, teacher’s code of ethics)
• Can compile the week plan based on the principles of general teaching
• Can plan and carry out learning activities, using the possibilities of integrating activities and subject areas and learning methods to involve children actively.
• Uses creativity in forming pedagogical environment and recognizes the value of the game.
• Communicates actively with children and parents, cooperates with the staff of the kindergarten and the group.
• Can analyse teacher’s work in carrying out learning- educational process and forming the group environment.
• Can analyse the child’s school readiness.
• Can plan and make age-specific teaching aids.
• Analyses and evaluates critically the level of his/her theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
