Course aims
Specialty elective. The course is intended to contribute to the development of students’ awareness of different psychic disorders of children, ability to observe and systematic thinking in order to see causal relationship between different psychic and behavioural disorders and the life-situation of the child.
Brief description of the course
Research methods in child psychiatry. Gathering anamneses, describing the status of the child objectively. Observation of an infant and small child. Developing observation skills. Behavioural patterns of parent, their effect on the development of the child. Cognitive, social dimension of the development of the game. Mother-child relationship: main influencer of the psychic of the child according to the psycho-dynamic approach. Pervasive developmental disorders (autism). Mental retardation. Learning, speech and language specific disorders. Depression of the child, phobias and other disruptions of emotional life. Behavioural and communication disorders of the child. Abused child. Addictions among children.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Lectures, seminars, observation. Observing the baby: observing the child within an hour and its neutral description (pp ~2).
