Course aims
To provide students with the knowledge of development trends of Russian and Slavonic languages and the newest approaches to linguistic studies of those languages; to teach students to work with texts and corpuses of texts; to deepen the students’ knowledge of the mechanisms of linguistic variation and changes
Brief description of the course
Modern approaches to the studies on language variation and change. Slavonic languages in the modern world. Modern Russian: main trends in phonology, lexicon, morphology, syntax, and organisation of discourse. Development trends of Polish. Development trends of other Slavic languages.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows main development trends of Russian and several other Slavonic languages;
- can analyse texts of various types and work with corpuses of texts;
- understands the basics of language variation and change;
- is able to connect various mastered knowledge and skills.
