Course aims

To study the potential of Russian stylistics and to analyse texts of different genres.

Brief description of the course

Features of different genres. Genres and styles in the Russian language. Aesthetic structure of texts, semantic connection in language. Category of addressee, communication situations. Category of author, authorship of a text. Rhetoric and stylistics of a text. Two main properties of a text - integrity and coherence. Style and norms. Stylistic and historical possibilities of modern text analysis. Concept of individual style. Practical stylistics usage. Autonomous work: essays, project work, practical stylistics exercises.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
Comprehends the style and genres of texts;
Is able to conduct stylistic analysis of a text;
Is able to use proper stylistic means.
