Course aims
To acquire basic knowledge of the nature and developments of public administration in contemporary governance, as well as the key issues in its core areas. The course lays the groundwork for the ability to analyze the functioning of public administration and its related core developments in modern public governance in a comparative context.
Brief description of the course
The course covers the following topics: the formation and multifaceted nature of the discipline of public administration; the development of public administration: traditional public administration, new public management, governance, and their specificities in governance arrangements; political-administrative relations; administrative cultures; civil service; regional and local dimensions of public administration in comparative context
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of public administration discipline and its developments in modern public governance;
- knows the key areas of public administration and theoretical approaches;
- is able to understand and analyse the main problems in public administration in comparative perspective, and to present and defend his research;
- is familiar with the literature on public administration and can understand and critically analyse basic literature on topics covered in public administration;
- can present and defend his research work.
