Course aims
Understand the role and nature of evaluating different policy domains in various stages of the policy process. Acquire the foundations for understanding different approaches to policy analysis and evaluation, along with their possibilities and key stakeholders.
Brief description of the course
The nature, forms, methods, and skills of policy analysis. The context of policy analysis and its tasks in the light of the policy design and process. Various possibilities for policy analysis, including related disciplinary and methodological developments. The nature of policy analysis & evaluation and their differences to intervene in policy-making: e.g. substantive, tools-oriented and interactive analysis. Impact assessments and policy evaluation (ex ante, ex post). The success and failure of policies illustrated through analyses in different policy domains.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is familiar with the basic nature and role of policy analysis in the policymaking process, as well as its main specificities in different policy domains policies;
- comprehends the disciplinary and methodological developments and variations in policy analysis and evaluation, including the possibilities for different types of analyses in intervening in politics;
- has the ability to collect data and sources for policy analysis, choose appropriate analytical methods, and evaluate the results and consequences of policy implementation.
