Course aims
Knowledge about the use of the term civil society in sociological, political and common social theory.
Brief description of the course
The connections between the term civil society and other similar concepts like social movements, democracy, political culture, lifeworld and bourgeois public sphere are explained. Civil society as a theoretical and empirical concept is under observation: classical and contemporary theoretics and current research fields related to the subject matter. For example the role of civil society in the democratization process of developing countries, the problems of post-socialist civil society and the relationship between civil society and contemporary welfare state.
