Course aims
Give an overview of pupils’ cognitive development and approaches to learning.
Develop knowledge of evaluation and intervention in dealing with children with special needs (learning difficulties).
Develop knowledge of evaluation and intervention in dealing with children with special needs (learning difficulties).
Brief description of the course
Learning and factors influencing the effectiveness of learning. The role of personality in learning. Individual peculiarities, considering these in teaching. Educational special needs. Evaluation of learning difficulties and the possibilities of aiding. Possible relations of learning difficulties and social skills.
Students work through the required reading and perform practical tasks both individually and in the form of group work.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview about the most influential approaches to study skills;
- knows the most important factors that are related to study skills;
- knows cognitive and metacognitive study strategies and can use them properly;
- understands specific of study skills in different age and special educational needs groups;
- has an overview of programs of teaching study skills.
