Course aims
Give an overview of the concept and theoretical foundations of social competence.
Give an overview of the development of social skills in different age periods Introduce the different possibilities of classifying pupils’ social skills and ways of evaluating and developing them in the school environment
Brief description of the course
Social skills and social competency. Components of social skills (after Caldarella & Merrell’s taxonomy). Development of social skills at different ages. Possible short- and long-term effects of deficient social skills. Methods of evaluating social skills. Possibilities of developing social skills at school. Modeling and cognitive-behavioral approach (Weltmann Begun’s model).
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge of the concept and theoretical foundations of social competence;
- has knowledge of the different possibilities of classifying pupils’ social skills and ways of evaluating them;
- is able to develop pupils’ social skills.
