Course aims

To provide a complete survey of the main algebraic structures and of matters concerning the solution of polynomial equations.

Brief description of the course

Main algebraic structures: semigroups, groups, rings and fields. Theory of divisibility in commutative rings. Euclidean rings, factorial rings and principal ideal domains. Roots of polynomials in integral domains and in fields of fractions. Algebraic numbers. Algebraically closed fields.
