Course aims

The goal of the subject is: to offer an introductory overview of the main probabilistic methods together with their most important applications; to teach students to use the most common probabilistic methods.

Brief description of the course

Collecting and organizing data. Population and sample. Types of variables. Preparation of data for processing. Frequency table and distribution table. Data presentation types. Mean value. Median. Measures of variability. Correlation and linear regression estimates. Hypothesis testing. Analysis of variance

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- knows main notions of mathematical statistics;
- is familiar with the main methods and their applications;
- is able to solve the standard exercises on paper and Excel.
