Course aims
To provide future classteachers with the basic mathematical knowledge and skills in the field of algebra and geometry in the basic school.
Brief description of the course
Different percentage problems. Probability and Statistics. Functions (linear and quadratic function; inverse proportionality) and corresponding equations. System of linear equations. Segment, ray, and line segment. Types of angles. Degree and radian measure. Angles formed by intersecting lines. Angle theorem. Triangles, classification, and properties. Congruence and similarity. Metric relationships in triangles. Polygon. Quadrilaterals. Circle and circumference. Solving relevant problems.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows and can solve various percentage problems;
- knows how to present statistical data and knows the rules for calculating numerical characteristics;
- is able to solve simpler classical probability problems;
- knows simpler functions and can describe their properties using graphs;
- is able to solve simple equations and systems of equations;
- is able to create an equation based on the text, and use it to solve the text problem;
- knows and recognizes the basic concepts of planimetry;
- is able to solve planimetry tasks;
- is able to solve basic construction tasks;
- has basic knowledge and skills to teach planimetry topics on the 2nd and 3rd school levels.
