Course aims

To provide students with the knowledge and skills in basic school arithmetic and algebra.

Brief description of the course

Numbers, numerals, number systems. Calculating with whole numbers, decimal and common fractions. Conversion of units. Finding the part of the whole; finding the whole by part. Calculating percentages. Sector diagram. Scientific notation. Monomials and polynomials. Calculus formulas. Factoring polynomials. Algebraic fractions.

Learning outcomes in the course

Upon completing the course the student:
- can convert numbers from one number system to another;
- knows the characteristics of the divisibility of natural numbers and can apply them;
- can perform all basic calculations with whole numbers, decimal and common fractions;
- knows and can solve standard problems with percentages;
- distinguishes monomials and polynomials; can perform all mathematical operations with them;
- knows calculus formulas and can to apply them;
- can perform all mathematical operations with algebraic fractions.
