Course aims
Elective. To give profound knowledge about the role of inorganic component in living organisms.
Brief description of the course
Macro-, micro- and ultramicroelements, their role in Nature. The elements essential for living organisms. Physico-chemical characterization of metal ions in biological systems, their dynamics and transport. Metallo-proteins and enzymes, complexes of metals with nucleic acids. The role of non-metals (F, I, As, S, etc) in living systems. Optimal, under-and over-concentration of the elements.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has conception of the chemical composition of living matter;
- has knowledge about the fundamental role of the chemical elements and inorganic ions in the Nature.
