Course aims
The goal of the subject is
- to give an systematic overview of the quantum properties of atoms and the effect of the physical environment on chemical reactions;
- to support the explanation of chemical processes using the laws of physics;
- to give the ability to apply this knowledge in practice.
Brief description of the course
Properties of gas. Laws of thermodynamics. Thermochemistry. Equilibrium of phases. Properties of mixtures. Chemical equilibrium. Solutions, properties of dilute solutions. The reaction rate and catalysis. Structure of molecules and their properties. Review of colloidal systems. Practical works: Determination of molecular weight; Surface phenomena and adsorption at the boundary of phases; Chromatography; Obtaining and properties of colloidal systems; Spectrophotometry; Determination of pH.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge in the field of physical and colloid chemistry and some practikal application of this subject.
- can apply acquired knowledge research of natural scientific, expands knowledge and skills in conducting of laboratory work;
- can create links between different areas of chemistry and apply quantitative methods.
