Course aims
- To support the development of an in-depth worldview in the field of physics and chemistry of future primary school Grade I and II teachers (class teachers) and the development of a deeper understanding of the phenomena occurring in inanimate nature and their regularities;
- To support learning and research methods of teaching and researching different properties, phenomena and concepts of inanimate nature through practical work and the ability to use these methods in conducting primary and basic school science lessons to develop students' knowledge of nature in primary and basic school;
- To enable the acquisition of subject knowledge and the development of skills for solving problems;
- To support the development of skills for work with the professional curriculum and study literature;
- To support the development of experimental planning, execution and analysis skills
Brief description of the course
The "physical" environment of inanimate nature. The use of the language of physics in
science education in basic school. Research methods used in physics (science): theoretical
and experimental. Experiment in science: demonstration experiment, experiment, laboratory
work and home experiments.
Teaching aids in science education: textbook, workbook, technical aids and homemade
experimental aids, literature. Key words: time, length, mass, temperature, current, luminous
intensity: measurement and means of measurement, history of size, safety techniques,
applications, relationships between different subject areas. Micro, Macro and Megaworld.
Concepts of astronomy in basic school, observations. Media Lab.
Field observations - observation of the sky and observation of the sun.
Solving exercise tasks.
Laboratory works carried out independently.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the physical and chemical properties of the substance and the material and is able to name the signs of chemical reactions which he / she already knows from previous training;
- can give examples of pure substances, mixtures and dispersed systems and knows their use in everyday life;
- can describe the structure of the atom and knows the connection of the periodic table with the structure of the atom;
- knows the principles of classification of simple and compound substances and metals and non-metals;
- can name the chemical properties of water and knows the importance of oxygen in natural processes;
- knows and is able to describe the phenomena and regularities occurring in the physical environment of inanimate nature, to name their important physical features and to analyse them;
- understands the importance of physical quantities in the study of natural processes and is able to explain the causes of physical phenomena and give examples from everyday life;
- is able to practically measure previously learned physical quantities found in everyday life and is able to analyse the obtained experimental results, compare them with the conclusions derived from previously learned theory and evaluate his / her activities;
- is able to use different sources of information (guides, manuals , internet , etc.) in solving problems in different fields of physics and chemistry.
