Course aims
To introduce the student to the notion of physical research and the methodological principles of experimental and theoretical physics. To explore connections between physics as science and physics as a subject of study and connections between physics and other natural sciences. To search and systematise information, using the language and logic of physics.
Brief description of the course
During the course an overview of the methodological basics of experimental and theoretical physics will be given. The place of physics in the system of knowledge will be discussed. An overview of the history of physics as science and physics as a subject of study will be given. Lectures will interchange with seminars in the computer laboratory where various physical phenomena will be investigated using computer simulations, and methods for using the Internet as a source of knowledge will be studied.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Arusaam füüsikaalaste teadmiste saamise viisidest, teooria ja eksperimendi kohast;
Oskus viia läbi füüsika eksperimentide analüüsil vajalikku põhilist andmetöötlust, illustreerida andmeid graafikutega;
Oskus analüüsida katsetulemusi ning võrrelda neid teoreetiliste tulemustega;
Oskus rakendada arvutiprogramme (tabelarvutusprogrammid, Mathematica või MathCad) füüsikaliste probleemide lahendamisel.
