Course aims
Support the understanding of population dynamics of animals and plants and basics of their research and management.
Brief description of the course
The course covers: spatial, age-related, genetic structures and sex ratio of animal populations; dynamics of animal populations; major approaches in studying the animal populations.
The course covers: concept of plant populations, structure and dynamics, environment and live strategies, dispersion and colonization, interactions and differentiation of populations, major approaches in studying plant populations.
During individual work student analyzes specialized literature, composes presentation and performs it at auditorium.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows basic processes in the level of animal population and is able to characterize them;
- orientates in the population ecology principles;
- is able to bring examples of factors that shape the dynamics of animal populations;
- is able to find the appropriate scientific information;
- is able to review the interactions between environment and individuals, populations;
- knows and will be able to analyze the main processes in plant populations;
- understands specific dynamics, dispersion and colonization of plant populations.
