Course aims
To support the development of a knowledge base to orientate onself in the diversity of vertebrate animals.
To develop knowledge and skills to know and describe the general building plans, anatomy and systematics of vertebrate animals.
Brief description of the course
Introduction to vertebrate animal diversity, description of the classes and more common subunits, their typical bodyplans and characteristics of anatomy and ecology.
In labs the topics introduced in lectures are reinforced by practical tasks. Work with identification keys will be introduced.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- is able to orientate himself in diversity of vertebrate animals;
- knows systematics of vertebrate animals in estonian/english and latin on given level and is able to assigne animals to these groups from given examples (pictures);
- is able to describe and compare the abundance, distribution and anatomy of different animal groups;
- is able to compile a paper according to the requierments;
- is able to find a orientate itself in scientific literature.
