Course aims
To give a comprehensive overview about the history of
Biotechnology and Gene Technology. To introduce different
branches of Biotechnology and Gene Technology. To create an
understanding of modern Biotechnology and Gene Technology, its
methods and future
Brief description of the course
Comprehensive overview about the history of Biotechnology and Gene Technology and the historical methods. Introduction into different branches of Biotechnology and Gene Technology, overview of modern Biotechnology and Gene Technology, its methods and future. Introduction to genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics.
How to understand, integrate and interpert data from different levels of organization. Discovery of emergent properties, properties of cells, tissues and organisms functioning as a system.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview about the history of Biotechnology and Gene Technology;
- is familiar with main branches of Biotechnology and Gene Technology and has an understanding of the major methods;
- knows how to use statical methods of Biotechnology and Gene Technology;
- can find relevant biological datasets from major databases;
- can work with datasets from major biological databases and integrate datasets with published data;
- can present Biotechnology and Gene Technology study findings both orally and in writing.
