Course aims
The course is aimed at those learners whose Russian language proficiency is at A2 level. A supporting subject aimed at teaching Russian through reading and analysing texts, developing a grammatical system, enriching active and passive vocabulary. Student acquires proficiency of Russian that in the main part corresponds to B1 (intermediate) level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Brief description of the course
Integrated developing of all four foreign language skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) pursuing the content of B1 scale of CEFR. Topics include: Introduction, introducing yourself. Work and salary. Lifestyle and a typical day. Free time and holidays. Shopping: at a restaurant, at a store. Nutrition, health, and healthy lifestyle. At the doctor’s: diagnoses and symptoms. How to talk about your tastes. History. Directions. Traveling. Appearance. Character. Global issues. Life in different countries. Languages and cultures. Topics may vary depending on the students' language proficiency, level, and specific needs.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the main information in clear regular speech or in radio or television;
- understands texts that consist of more common words and phrases;
- is able to converse on topics that are familiar and interesting to him/her;
- can apply grammatical rules;
- is able to justify and explain his/her opinions orally and in writing;
- is able to give an overview of the areas related to his/her specialisation.
