Course aims
To acquire basic knowledge and skills in the field of jewelry work by creating various types of jewelry using cold working of metals.
Brief description of the course
Provide an overview of the role and significance of metal craft in Estonian cultural history. Learn to handle the most common materials and tools used in metalwork. Different methods of processing and joining metals. Artistic design of metal crafts. Technologies for making traditional Estonian jewelry.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows the principles of jewellery design and production and is able to apply them;
- is familiar with the technologies used in the production of traditional Estonian jewellery;
- understands metalworking techniques used in decorative metalwork;
- selects and handles common materials and tools used in metalwork;
- applies appropriate techniques in metal processing;
- demonstrates a responsible attitude towards the sustainable use of materials and the creation of aesthetically pleasing objects.
