Course aims
Develop knowledge to distinguish between different construction materials and readiness to use them in your practical work. Getting to know the properties and processing methods of metals during lectures and practical work. Acquisition of technological knowledge and practical skills in metalwork for teaching this subject at the basic school level.
Brief description of the course
Overview of different metals, structural materials and their properties. Production and recycling of metals. Writing an independent work about metal and all metal-related in Estonian folk culture. Familiarity with the physical properties of various metals for processing purposes. A brief overview of the wire and tin manufacturing process. The main processing technologies of wire and sheet metal. The main techniques of locksmith work. Methodology of teaching metal processing.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- can distinguish and determine the most common metallic materials;
- knows the general technical and physical properties of metals;
- can choose suitable material for practical work;
- knows metal processing technologies;
- can use tools for metalwork;
- can feel the object's proportions and evaluate the object's aesthetics;
- knows the conditions and requirements of safe working;
- knows the methodology of teaching metal processing.
