Course aims
To prepare students for school practice and professional work as working technology teachers. To develop skills in conceptualizing and planning curriculum and subject matter, and to enable them to apply what they have learned in practice.
Brief description of the course
Historical background of craft education in the Nordic countries and Estonia. General principles of the RÕK. Structure and content of the curriculum and syllabus of craft and technology education. Material and technical base and documentation of craft and technology education.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has an overview of the subject syllabus of the National Curriculum for Basic Schools and describes its connection with the general part of the curriculum; provides examples of the principles of curricular integration;
- plans and sets objectives for subject-related activities and for lessons in Craft and Technology Education;
- applies integration in the learning process and pays attention to the development of general competences;
- analyses and is able to evaluate the learning environment in Craft and Technology Education;
- formulates subject-specific knowledge clearly and logically, both orally and in writing.
