Course aims
To create opportunities for the acquisition of knowledge about theoretical foundations of arts therapies, principles of therapeutic intervention and experiential learning through practical exercises.
Brief description of the course
Defining arts therapies. Helping and therapy, opportunities and limitations. General characteristics of art therapies. Images, symbols and metaphors. Important processes/components of arts therapies: creative projection, triangular relationship, distance and perspective, embodyment, nonverbal communication, therapeutic-creative space, active presence. Therapeutic process and creative process. Diversity of arts therapies background theories. Therapeutic relationship. Ethical principles, informed consent, confidentiality in a therapeutic relationship. Levels of application and target groups of art therapies.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- has knowledge about the development of art therapies, psychotherapeutic application of arts, therapy process, ethical requirements;
- has skills in using simple activity and solution-focused counselling techniques in therapeutic application of arts;
- has ability to distinguish between art therapies and other therapies and similar domains.
