Course aims
To introduce basic techniques of receptive and active music therapy and their applications in practice.
Brief description of the course
Knowing different music styles. Analysis of works of music from therapeutic aspect. Techniques and methods of receptive music therapy, their theoretical treatments and practical applications. Selecting music and listening techniques depending on client’s problems and the objectives of the therapy. Using musical instruments and voice in music therapy. Interpretational, improvisational and compositional techniques and methods of music therapy, their theoretical treatment and practical applications. Pair and group techniques of active music therapy. Selecting the techniques of music making depending on client’s problems and the objectives of the therapy.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Knowledge about main techniques of receptive and active music therapy and their applications;
Skills of choosing appropriate music depending on the aim of the therapy, task formulated, target group and indications;
Skills of purposeful usage of musical instruments and voice in different therapy situations;
Skills of drawing up exercises of receptive and active music therapy;
Ability to use main techniques supporting receptive and active music therapy in a therapeutic relationship.
