Course aims
The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to the main concepts of music theory such as rhythm, meter, pitch, interval, chord etc and also to the basics of the classical tonal harmony.
Brief description of the course
Pitch and intervals. Rhythm and meter. Modes and keys. Melody and harmony. Triads and seventh-chords. Texture and different chord settings. Chordal figuration, melodic figuration, non-chordal tones.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
Student who passes the course: knows and can properly use the musical terms in describing the musical structure, can read and understand the musical (notational) text, knows the main concepts related to the classical harmony, can add simple harmony to the simple melody.
