Course aims
To provide students with the knowledge and basic skills necessary for teaching mathematics at the 1st and 2nd school level.
Brief description of the course
Main tasks and teaching goals of mathematics at the 1st and 2nd school levels. Content of subject and main emphases in mathematics education. Planning mathematics teaching. The structure of mathematics lessons. Different learning methods and forms. Meaningful learning.
Algorithms and strategies for mental and written calculation. Comparing and rounding numbers. Basic operations with natural numbers, whole numbers, decimal fractions and common fractions. Percentages. Measurement, units of measurement and relationships between them. Geometric shapes. Problem solving.

Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understands the logic of the structure of the mathematical learning process at the 1st and 2nd level of school;
- is able to critically assess the content of educational literature (EL) and use EL in the learning process;
- can to plan a mathematics lesson and create a lesson plan;
- can to apply motivational ways of teaching;
- knows how and why to use illustrative study aids in lessons, can to prepare them.
