Course aims
- Create opportunities to get an overview of special needs and possible ways of classification;
- understand the role of the environment in defining, identifying and rehabilitating special needs;
- develop readiness to support people with special needs depending on their characteristics.
Brief description of the course
Illness, disability and special needs. General principles of inclusive education. The nature, characteristics, causes, expression of special needs. Supporting a learner with special needs in kindergarten and school. The teacher's role in involving a learner with support needs. Aids. Specific learning disabilities. Taking into account the area of the approximate zone. Customization of the environment. Choosing suitable options arising from special needs.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- orients himself in the terms used in special pedagogy and knows how to use them;
- has theoretical knowledge of the forms, nature, severity and accompanying problems of special needs;
- understands the role of the environment in supporting the development of a learner with special needs;
- understands the characteristics of the learner's personality, cognitive activity and practical activity, the differentiated orientation of learning activities;
- values inclusive educational organization.
