Course aims
To give an overview about possibilities of creating multimedia content in a preschool learning process (picture, sound, video, animation) and support practical skills to use media education with children. To explain the basic concepts of media literacy and the key concepts of the filmmaking. To raise awareness about media risks and opportunities and the importance of media as one developmental environment in child’s comprehensive development. To associate creation of multimedia and media education with the national curriculum for preschool child care institutions. To offer readiness to implement media content and ICT tools to shape children’s media awareness and understanding. The course offers practical solutions and guidance for the creation of multimedia and using media education to
support children’s development.
Brief description of the course
Introduction to the course, registration to the eDidaktikum.ee portal. Creating digital pictures, picture editing, making screen-shots and digital drawings. Picture in learning process. Digitally created and designed advert for event. The basics of audio-visual literacy. History of animation. Phases of creating animation. Scenario. Frame. Animation types. Making videos, film terms, video editing software, screen recorder software. Video in learning process. Sound recording, sound editing programs. Sounds in learning process, sharing multimedia. Media mechanisms, impact means. Legislation. Possible impact of media – dangers and opportunities. New literacy and media-consciousness. Cross-media and participatory culture. Didactic basic principles of media education and pre-school educational establishments and national curriculum. Means of media and its content and areas of learning and educational activities. Value education and media. Secure use of ICT, age-specific online-etiquette. The role and possibilities of an adult as a leader and tutor of media-use, cooperation between pre-school and home, peer culture.
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- knows different types of multimedia and (also orients in history) its content elements. * Uses suitable hardware and software to create multimedia (based on the;
- analyses the possibilities to use multimedia in preschool learning process and connections between the national curriculum.type of media);
- creates different multimedia taking into consideration the basics of audio-visual literacy, media education principles and references to the national curriculum for pre-school educational establishments;
- publishes created multimedia to web;
- analyses the possibilities to use multimedia in preschool learning process and connections between the national curriculum;
- understands the importance of (digital) media as one developmental environment in child’s comprehensive development;
- finds solutions to possible problems arising from the media * Possesses the willingness to advise parents generally (by using different media formats) the issues of media education and ICT.
