Course aims
To provide basic knowledge of the management principles of digital library, core technologies and their architecture. To analyse the management and development of a digital library.
Brief description of the course
The nature of digital libraries, main concepts and approaches
The role of technologies in digital library and relevant models
The digital object’s life-cycle in a digital library and its supporting technologies
Digital library architectures and core applications
New technologies in digital libraries: mobile platforms, e-books, open data, cloud platforms
Learning outcomes in the course
Upon completing the course the student:
- understand the nature and main concepts of digital libraries;
- is able to analyse and assess digital library models and architectures;
- is able to analyse and assess appropriate digital library technologies for each stage of a digital object’s life-cycle in the library;
- demonstrates the ability to plan the management and use of digital library technologies.
